NES chosen to equip newbuild ferry

11 September 2025 – Tersan Shipyard has contracted Norwegian Electric Systems (NES) to act as system integrator and deliver power and automation systems for a newbuild ferry the Turkish shipyard is building for an undisclosed shipowner.

In addition to the role as system integrator, NES’ scope of supply includes the complete power system including motors, generators, transformers, AC/DC switchboards and a battery pack.

NES will also deliver a charging plug that connects the vessel to onshore charging stations, plus an integrated automation system to the vessel.

The majority of the equipment deliveries will be made during 2026.

“Our role as system integrator is critically important because of the complexity and interdependence of the many onboard systems – many of which we will deliver. Our focus will be on ensuring interoperability, optimising performance and efficiency, plus ensuring compliance with safety and other regulatory standards,” says Mads Ulstein, SVP Sales at NES.

On 30 April this year, NES announced that Tersan Shipyard in Turkey had contracted the Norway-based supplier to act as system integrator and deliver power and automation systems for two vessels. This latest ferry – NB 1137 – is a copy of the two vessel newbuilds NES announced in April, but with slightly adjusted scope.

“Winning our third contract with Tersan Shipyard in just under four months is an achievement that we are proud of. There are obvious synergy effects between the two previously announced newbuild projects and the contract we announce today. We will capitalise on these to reduce project execution risk for Tersan Shipyard, NES and the shipowner,” says Remøy-Vangen, managing director of NES.

NES is a subsidiary of HAV Group ASA, which is listed on Euronext Growth Oslo.
