Raising the bar in diesel-electric propulsion

2001

Scandinavian Electric Systems, the precursor to Norwegian Electric Systems (NES), sets a new standard for diesel-electric propulsion systems, guided by the visionary leadership of Jan Berg.

We're steering towards the forefront of tailored, high-tech solutions for the marine industry.

Founding of Norwegian Electric Systems (NES)

2009

Norwegian Electric Systems (NES) is officially founded, marking the beginning of an exciting journey. We start developing advanced propulsion systems, including diesel-electric, hybrid-electric, and fully electric models. Our innovations quickly exceed global expectations, positioning us as a leader in the international market.

Global demand for efficient maritime transport

2010

The global e-commerce boom drives a surge in international trade, increasing the demand for efficient maritime transportation solutions.

First battery container and zero-emission ferry

2016

NES delivers its first battery container as a spinning reserve, alongside the launch of our first zero-emission ferry, equipped with an onshore charging system and an IGBT-based bus tie solution.

Launch of variable speed generator operation

2017

We expand our portfolio with the successful delivery of our first variable speed generator operation.

Merger with NCS and launch of INS solution

2018

NES merges with Norwegian Control Systems (NCS) under the Havyard Group. This powerful union enhances our capabilities, offering integrated solutions from ‘bridge to thruster,’ all while maintaining a commitment to safety, efficiency, and environmental stewardship. In the same year, we deliver our first INS (Integrated Navigation System) solution.

Havyard acquisition and major battery deliveries

2019

Havyard Group acquires full ownership of NES, transforming us into a wholly-owned subsidiary. Our integration with NCS continues to focus on developing environmentally friendly propulsion solutions. Additionally, we deliver battery packs exceeding 6000 kWh to Havila Kystruten.

IMO 2020: Cleaner shipping initiatives

2020

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) introduces the “IMO 2020 - cleaner shipping for cleaner air” regulation, setting a global limit on sulfur content in ship fuel oil, aligning with our focus on green maritime technology.

Transition to HAV Group ASA

2021

NES, along with other Havyard entities, transitions into HAV Group ASA, a dynamic organization formed to lead the green shift in maritime operations. By combining expertise in ship design, propulsion solutions, and environmental technologies through Norwegian Greentech, we strengthen our position in the market.

Delivery of high-capacity charging solutions

2023

NES delivers advanced charging solutions with a capacity exceeding 15 MW, further solidifying our leadership in maritime electrification.

Introduction of DP DC ring-based power system

2024

We achieve another milestone by delivering our first 6-part DP DC ring-based power system solution, showcasing our commitment to innovation and technological advancement.

Today and beyond

2024

Norwegian Electric Systems continues to raise the bar in the marine industry, focusing on developing smart, safe, and sustainable maritime technologies. We remain dedicated to designing the future of maritime transport, adapting to the evolving needs of the industry.

Our people are the heart of innovation. Meet the experts driving our vision, with knowledge, experience, and dedication to every project.
