Meet our people
Since joining NES as SVP Technical, Lars has quickly established himself as a leader and a forward-thinker within our team. With years of experience in other roles in the company, he has become a key figure in driving NES’s ambitions for greener, more efficient maritime solutions.
From project engineer to technical leadership
Since stepping into the role as SVP Technical, Lars Nygård has brought with him a grounded perspective, technical insight and a clear understanding of how to build systems – and teams – that deliver.
Having joined NES in 2020 as project engineer, and recently serving as Manager Power, Lars has played a key role in developing the systems and structures that now form the foundation of NES’s integrated energy solutions.
With hands-on experience from engineering and technical leadership, both in NES and in previous roles at Ulvesund Elektro, Lars knows what it takes to balance innovation with implementation. His focus has always been on making technology work in theory and practice.
“We work in a complex interface between products, systems, people and processes. My goal is to strengthen that interface and ensure that we have the right tools, mindset and structures in place, both internally and externally,” Lars says.
This mindset is now shaping how NES approaches collaboration, planning, and product development across departments.

Building on a solid technical foundation
As Manager Power, Lars was instrumental in developing NES’s AC and DC-based power systems, including the standardisation of solutions across multiple vessel types – from fully electric ferries to hybrid offshore vessels. His leadership helped streamline technical processes and contributed to several major deliveries.
Now, as SVP Technical, he is using this experience to guide NES through the next phase of growth: scaling proven platforms, strengthening internal collaboration, and further improving how we plan, document and deliver.
The ongoing implementation of work packages and technical planning tools like the PEM are among the initiatives he now leads.
“We want to build predictability into every part of the process – without losing flexibility,” he says.
This includes working more closely with other departments to ensure that technical resources are aligned with project needs and market demands.
Embracing the Green Shift
For Lars, the transition to a greener maritime sector is not just a technological shift – it’s a structural one. With years of experience in power system integration, he understands the critical role that engineering plays in reaching environmental goals.
Rather than focusing solely on new technology, he advocates for better utilisation of what we already know works – and for designing systems that are robust, reliable and ready for future upgrades.
“The green shift is about more than emissions. It’s about energy management, system architecture, and smarter decision-making throughout the lifecycle of a vessel.”
In his new role, Lars continues to support product teams in developing NES’ integrated offerings, while also looking ahead to what’s next. That means investing in competence, fostering cross-functional collaboration, and making sure the technical organisation is equipped for the future.
