Sea trials are underway for Scandlines’ fully electric freight ferry, with all onboard systems now undergoing full-scale operational and safety testing.
Sea trials are underway in Turkey, putting the fully electric freight ferry to the test. Its power, propulsion, automation, and navigation systems are undergoing full-scale testing to ensure seamless performance under real-world conditions.
The 10.1 MWh battery system and energy management setup onboard are undergoing operational load testing, ensuring efficiency, reliability, and seamless integration with the vessel’s propulsion.
Thorough redundancy and safety testing is in progress, verifying stability and performance across all conditions.
Once sea trials are complete, Futura will set sail for Denmark, where it will undergo final testing with the 15 MW shore charging system in Rødby. When finished, the ferry will operate on the 18.5-kilometer route between Rødby and Puttgarden – running for 45 minutes entirely on battery power.
With its full DC power system, Futura is setting a new standard for the future of ferry transport
